Get to know One Revere

Welcome to Work-Life Wednesday, where we deep-dive into leadership best practices to maximize your growth potential.

Good morning. I was recently contacted on my LinkedIn account with the question, ā€œWhat compelled you to take on the extra project?ā€ referring to the newsletter. To be honest, I had to think about this for a moment. My vision for the newsletter was clear from the beginning, but I hadn't solidified it in writing yet.

One Revere has been among the most successful and rewarding projects I've started but it wasnā€™t until today that we documented who we are. The aim of today's newsletter is to offer insights into our business and provide a framework for identifying your own projects or entrepreneurial ventures. To identify values and beliefs, a business or project needs:

  1. Mission Statement.

  2. Choosing a Business Name.

  3. Scope.

  4. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

I deeply appreciate everyone who has joined us on this One Revere journey. Today, I want to take a moment to share our story and the values that drive us, ensuring that we're all moving forward with a shared vision and purpose.

Please reply to this email with the #1 character trait of a good leader so we can write more newsletters that serve our growing subscriber base. šŸ˜Š

šŸš€Mission Statement.

The mission statement should be the first step when starting a business, as it identifies the problem your business aims to solve. It serves as a concise narrative that inspires stakeholders to invest both time and money in your product. Stakeholders need to understand what you stand for and your ultimate goals. Ensure clarity, provide direction, motivate your core team, and align objectives.

One Revere Mission Statement:

ā€œTo ignite innovation by empowering leaders with a dynamic space for exploration of ideas and resources.ā€

āœ…Clarity: Clear and easy to understand.
āœ…Conciseness: Brief, typically one to three sentences long.
āœ…Purposeful: Conveys the organization's primary objectives.
āœ…Inspirational: Motivates and inspire members of the organization.
āœ…Timeless: While it can evolve over time, a mission statement should represent the enduring purpose of the organization.

šŸ—³Choosing a Business Name.

Choosing a memorable name for your business is important. Most often, itā€™s a consumerā€™s first impression and the beacon that allows them to remember/recommend your product. Itā€™s the cornerstone of your brand and sets the stage for all subsequent branding efforts, encapsulating the essence, values, and personality of your enterprise.

Your business name should be a clue for potential customers to understand the businessā€™s product or ethos.

One Revere Naming Story:

One Revereā€™s story began on April 18th, 1775, when 5 people set out to warn the early Americans that the British were approaching. To reach as many people as possible, they took different routes that night. However, most of their messages were met with hesitation and confusion, except for Paul Revereā€™s. The residents of Boston recognized him when he knocked on their doors. Revere knew who in each town was well-connected and could further spread the warning. In contrast, there are no records of his companion, William Dawes, successfully alerting anyone, likely because he lacked Revere's reputation. So, even though five riders set out that night with the same mission, history remembers only "One Revereā€.

šŸ”¬Scope.

Project scope is an integral piece of project planning that involves identifying and documenting specific project goals, deliverables, tasks, costs, and deadlines.

  • A well-defined project scope provides clarity on project goals, deliverables, and boundaries.

  • Effective scope management helps in preventing scope creep, which can arise due to poor planning or miscommunication.

  • Communication plays a pivotal role in ensuring that everyone involved understands the project's objectives and the means to achieve them.

One Revere Scope:

  • Project Goals: To ignite innovation by empowering leaders with a dynamic space for exploration of ideas and resources.

  • Deliverables: Equipped leaders in the workplace.

šŸŽÆKPIs.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are essential for tracking the progress of a project towards its goals. Although KPIs vary greatly from project to project, they should align with your mission by describing measurable components of success vs. failure. While there isn't a one-size-fits-all set of KPIs, these KPIs are categorized into four main areas:

  • Timeliness: Ensuring the project is completed on schedule.

  • Budget: Monitoring if the project stays within the allocated budget.

  • Quality: Assessing the project's progression and satisfaction levels of those involved.

  • Effectiveness: Evaluating if resources, both time and money, are being utilized efficiently.

One Revere KPIs:

  • Timeliness: % of one-time newsletters

  • Budget: $100 per month

  • Quality: Un-subscribers per month

  • Effectiveness: New subscribers per month.
